Hi Lucy,

Quik Reports must go through each of the records in the database, and the selection formula determines whether each record is included in the report. There is no way to say start compiling the report from a certain point in the database; the data is not stored in this manner.

The cause of report slowness can be due to a number of contributing factors. The usual culprit is not enough conventional memory on your workstation. Quik Reports needs a minimum of 530K of available memory for standard reports, and often as much as 580K for more complicated reports. Type MEM from a DOS prompt to see how much available conventional memory you have, and should this amount be too small, you'll have to edit your configuration to free up more. We won't really be able to help you with this.

Sometimes the report runs slower due to the way the files in the report are linked together. In your case, you are linking IC and OE files together for the report, and if those links are not defined in the most efficient way, that could slow the report down. Link setup is done from the Edit Links menu.

Speed issues can also be due to the size of the database, which you can't do too much about, or the connection to the network which may slow most operations down.

Take a look at page F-15 in the Questions and Answers section of the manual for a couple of other tips for speeding up reports.
