I've inherited some department sensitive financial reports... if you select a department from the drop down list in the toolbar you get the numbers for that department... yay! so now I'm trying to create some new reports that work the same way, however I can't seem to 'turn on' the department feature...the drop down list of departments on the toolbar is shaded and inoperative... anyone know how to activate it?

Does your UserId have departmental restrictions?

Does the data set you are working in have departments?

Have you tried just editing the statements that are working?

Have you clicked the Consolidate button to the left of the department drop down, to allow selecting a specific department rather than the consolidation of all departments?

reports. It will advance you many months in the learning curve and save dozen's of posts on this forum. It is great reference tool.
