I am in the process of setting up new companies and keep running into issues! I want the fiscal period to be Sept 30, 2009. But it keeps telling me it is a 2010 fiscal period. I have been into the Fiscal Calendar and have upated for the correct months etc, but how do I change the "default" so that we are in 2009 and not 2010...

Please help!

Thanks

If the fiscal calendar does not run from Jan 1 to Dec 31, then the fiscal year finder in Adagio Ledger and the Financial Reporter will use the year defined on the year-closing date. So if you don't have a year end date of Dec 31, 2009, then your current fiscal year will be labelled as '2010-' if that is when your current fiscal year ends.

This cannot be changed so that a different year can be displayed in the fiscal year finder.

What is your fiscal year?

There are 12 or 13 fiscal periods with a beginning date and an end date. Which one do you want to be Sept 30, 2009?

If Sept 30, 2009 is the end of your fiscal year then when you created the data you should have answered

Month in which your current fiscal period began = 10 ( for October 1st 2008 )

Year in which your current fiscal year began = 2008

That is my probelm I did not answer the questions correctly, so I am looking for a way to change the answers to those questions? Is there one or do I have to start the process over?

To give a little more explaination here I just went to open the company and I want to enter at July 1/09 which is my start date, I have a short year end, which I wanted to be Sept 30/09. When I put in July 1/09 into the date for entry I get this error...

"Date is not valid for the current fiscal year: DFiscal periods, defaulted to 1, may need to be edited. Accept this entry date?"

I know it needs to be edited but I don't know how or where?!

If you are trying to change your fiscal year from one ending date to a different ending date, this can't be done by simply editing Fiscal Calendar, as it requires a full year when validated.

Here is a link to another forum posting that describes having a short fiscal year when the desire is to change to a different year end date:

Change Ledger year end date

There are a number of other threads that I found by using the Search function on this forum and using the criteria '+change +fiscal' - perhaps other threads may be of interest to you.

I had an interesting one yesterday that is related to this question.

I upgraded a client from Ledger 8.1A to Ledger 9.0B. They are on a 52/53 week fiscal year. The current year runs from 1/3/09 to 1/2/10. When the data converted, the current year was given the name "2010", which it obviously is not, although I understand from the discussion above why it did that.

So I tried to convert again, but this time I temporarily changed the last period ending date to 12/31/09 before converting. When the data converted, the current year was given the name "2009A", and the prior year was called "2009".

So I tried again, this time also changing the start of period 1 to 1/1/09 before converting. Unfortunately, it did not change the results.

What could I have done to force the conversion to treat the current year as "2009" and the prior year as "2008"?

Steve

Hi Steve,

Part of the problem here is that in Ledger 81A, you could only ever see the Current fiscal year and not the Prior year, which presumably had an ending date of Jan 2, 2009. Note that the prior year calendar is there, just not visible. When conversion is performed, it has to follow the same rules for the Prior year as it does for the Current year, namely assign the Fiscal Year identifier based on the year of the closing date.

To get the prior year to show 2008- and the current year to 2009-, not only would you have to temporarily change the current fiscal year to be based on Jan 1 to Dec 31 2009, but you would have to use GridView RW to change the prior fiscal year from Jan 1 to Dec 31 2008. Base the View on the 'Fiscal Periods' table and focus on the Start/End Dates for the records where the value of the 'Current/Prev Year' field is equal to 'P'.
