I was asked to installed a shared fax modem for a client the other day, when I arrived, I discovered they had Adagio. I was most impressed by the built in fax implementation however, I am stumped on one thing. The users who do not have a modem seem to only be able to submit their fax jobs to the "queue" and by design, the queued jobs never automatically sends, they need someone to manual activate them. But, from what I read, the scheduled faxes should be sending.....

The issue I am having is that the non-modem users need to send their faxes immediately as in "NOW". And although I realize the "NOW" button is disabled for a reason ( they dont have attached modems), I don’t understand why the scheduled jobs stay in the queue...forever...is there a step I am missing or maybe a patch???

If anyone can offer some guidance, it would be greatly appreciate.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

When a fax is sent to the Queue, they will not be sent unless the 'Fax Server' button is selected from the Fax Queue screen. This means that one station with access to Adagio and an attached modem must open the fax queue screen and click the Fax Server button. If the scheduled time to send the fax has passed, then the fax will be sent. If the fax is scheduled to be sent at a time in the future, the faxing procedure will skip it until that time is reached (and the fax server is still active).

So in order to have faxes sent immediately from users who do not have attached modems, they need to have a workstation with a fax modem, and Adagio open and the fax server running from the Fax Queue screen.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply!

So, If I were to setup a dedicated workstation and leave the FAX queue screen open and the Fax Server button enabled, would this accomplish the goal and allow faxes to send without have someone remember to click something?

Thanks again,
Chris

One final question (hopefully).

We have a dedicated file server. It is running Windows 2003. Would this unit be a suitable "dedicated Adagio fax box". I seem to remember a readme file that said using Windows 2003 Server as a Fax Server was a NO NO for faxing. Is this still true? Is there a patch to make it work? Or, if not, will there ever be a patch to make it work?

Thanks
Chris

Hi, Chris,

There have been problems setting up the Windows 2003 Server as a fax server.

Most sites run the fax server on a workstation.
