Good Day,

I have a client who is a wholesale but breaks cases often to facilitate off the street purchases which are normally a portion of the case, sometimes a case of 12 cartons is broken to sell one or two of those cartons. The problem is one carton is roughly .0834 of that case, but once it is entered in the ordered field it rounds it to 2 decimal places as that is how the home currency was set up.

I tried to make the change in Multicurrency but once I opened OE again it stated I had to change it back so that the module can open.

How do we fix this as the clients are complaining about losing money as their customers notice everything, some of which are Adagio users and thus when they put in the .08 at the unit price it doesn't work out to be the changed extension amount on the invoice.

I await your response. Thanks

Hi Ishana, your client needs to use Alternate Price lists from Inventory. An alternate price list can be set with 4 decimal places.

Hi Vickie,

Thank you for your response. An alternate price list was created from inventory, but that only changes the price and not the quantity ordered.

Ishana:

This is a common problem. You need to inventory the cartons as the base unit of measure and have an alternative unit of measure for the case.

Hi Doug,

That is what I was afraid of since the clients are really Wholesalers they prefer the highest unit of measure as opposed to the smallest.

I will discuss it with them.

Thanks

To add to what Doug wrote...

The stocking unit of measure must always be the lowest common denominator in which the item is ever counted, sold or bought. Where a carton is broken up it has to be CASE. Then an alternate unit of measure called CARTON is created with a factor of 12. Finally the selling unit of measure is set to CARTON. Doing this you can show on an invoice 6 CASES at $10.00/CARTON = $5.00.

The problem is that changing the stocking unit of measure once an item has been used will result in skewed sales history. But if you must do it, at least make sure that the quantities on hand, on sales order and on purchase order are all zero first.

Steve:

I believe Ishana indicated that a CASE contains 12 CARTON so the lowest common denominator is CARTON. The Stocking UOM is CARTON, the Alternative UOM is a CASE with a multiplier of 12, and the Selling UOM is a CASE. Then when you sell 6 CARTON @ $10.00/CASE = $5.00.

But then, I always like to plug the details into sample data to confirm I have it right and I haven't done so in this case.

Definitely the sales data is skewed when you make this type of change.
