We are running OE 8.1E (150224). We have not installed the 9.2A upgrade yet.

We would like approx 20 optional string fields and 20 optional dates fields. Any chance of getting this wish with the upgrade or sometime in the future?

Hi Susan,

We often get requests for optional field in Inventory. However, you probably want to do something with this data, don't you? Send it over to OrderEntry for example? Or perhaps PurchaseOrders? Or do some math on it in an invoice?

If the data is static and simple, and will be used just for reporting, then creating an Excel Sheet with Item # in the first column, and all the other fields you need in subsequent columns, is the easiest way to add this information to GridView Views.

However, if you have a list of the additional information you'd like to track on an inventory item, and how it would be used, please feel free to post it here for others to add their suggestions and comments.

How do you pull data from a spreadsheet into a Gridview?

Open the GridView Help and type "Excel Workbook" into the search box. Choose "Select Module window" from the available topics and review the material. You need to enable the "Include External Tables" option under F2-Edit Defaults, and your spreadsheet must be well-formed (just like the ExceDirect button creates with column names in row 1 and no blank rows or totals).

The spreadsheet must be in the Folder with your Adagio data.
