I just tried to replace a client's Windows XP Pro computers with new Windows 7 Pro computers and didn't expect any problems as everything went fairly smoothly. Once I tried to put the new machines to work I found that in OE all the specifications [orders, invoices, etc.] are now coming out wrong. The documents seemed to have been shifted to the left and were bigger so the invoice seems to have "grown" so it is chopped off. Windows 7 had all the release patches installed and the Adagio modules are all up to date.
I had to put back all the Xp machines until I figured this out. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. The new Computers are Win y Professional 16 GB of Ram and are quick. The Printers seem to print fine from all the other programs [Office, etc.] A couple of the printers are a few years old so if Win 7 drivers were not available I used HP's universal divers [PCL5e and PCL6]. I also tested on bran new HP LaserJet Printer and got the same result.
Any ideas???

Hi Ricardo,

We have seen this a lot, especially with the upgrades from unsupported XP's to Windows 7 or 8.1. Too much actually.

Sometimes adjusting the regional settings works because they have changed from your previous XP workstations. Could be just the different defaults because of the manufacturer. We can talk all day about checking regional settings and screen resolution magnifications, but at the end of the day, be aware that this is a known and common problem that may require revising the Adagio specifications.

New workstations may come with much bigger and higher resolution screens. Some of the screen resolutions transfer properly with adjustments to the regional settings but there is no guarantee. Similarly, the higher resolution screens often make icons and displays smaller so that users look to a higher magnification to see the screen content. All makes sense.

Unfortunately, what doesn't make sense is that the Adagio Forms are not transferable to differences in screen resolutions.

Crystal reports work fine with upgrades but forms documents such as check layouts or invoices or statements or purchase orders do not always transfer and as such need to be checked. We always budget time for forms modifications that require either alignment modifications or wholesale redesign.

In your situation, at least all workstations are upgraded at the same time. Otherwise you have a problem because you would be working with different specifications depending on the workstation, which creates printing issues in a multi-user environment. Also you have to make sure that every user printing the same forms has the same screen resolution (or magnification).

Be aware that the alignment of check forms in the specifications does not use the same alignment as live check forms so that you will need to test checks with a live check form, versus printing the alignment in the forms designer.

Best,
Brian

I have found the problem to be with the Display settings rather than the Resolution settings. In Windows 7, if you select a display of anything other than "Smaller - 100% (Default)", then the printed forms are too small (such as checks and invoices) and the screen boxes are also too small to contain the larger text and some of the text is outside the box and does not display properly. In fact, when printing checks, you cannot even see all of the date fields to select the checks.

The best way to make the screen larger for those that cannot see the small screen text is to change the Resolution setting and NOT the Display setting. Leave the display at Smaller - 100% and you will not have to change your specifications.

Carolyn,

You are exactly correct.

It is possible to use font scaling with the Aero interface in Windows, but I have found that creates sometimes substantial extra processing overhead and can degrade performance.

Thanks for all the replies. I got a hold of the Win7 Professional Install disks and wiped the machine out and started all over again. Everything went smoothly this time and I had no problems in printing. I tried just about everything before deciding to take the "start over" route. The only thing I was never able to conclude was whether the HP LaserJet drivers were the culprits.
If anyone else runs into this I would just recommend to reinstall Win 7 Professional. It would have been the shortest and best solution.

Thanks Again for all the support.
