I am working with a client who has the following modules
IC, OE, AP, AR, GL, CQ, GV and SA

They do day ends at times during the month when they are done some work....they don't do this every day. However, day end and period ends are done in the month.

Here is the question. I know that i have to get the company to do more regular day ends. The current bookkeeper leaves the batch retrieval in the GL until the end of the month. Can we not retrieve these batches in as they become available and check them and post them to the month as we go along?

What is adagio modules intent on this?

thanks
Laura

Yes, Day Ends should indeed be run daily. Usually the best time is first thing in the morning after the nightly back-up process but before any work is done for the day.

Retrieving from the sub-ledgers to the GL is more a matter of choice. In simpler situations where volumes are low and they don't rely on GL reporting, once a month is common. But in more complex situations it may make sense to retrieve more often, perhaps weekly. This would allow monitoring of things like clearing accounts and allow corrective action sooner. However I don't know anyone retrieving on a daily basis. Beyond the issue of too many batches in the GL, daily financial statements aren't very meaningful.

Retrieve as frequently as you wish. We don't charge by the number of batches, and smaller batches make it simpler to track down errors. I agree with Bruce that daily financial statements aren't meaningful, but it is a useful "reasonableness" check to make sure that all the transactions are flowing to the accounts you expect. Also, Ledger 9.0A will warn if an account has an unexpected balance (debit or credit).
