I seem to be having trouble linking a couple of tables in Gridview.
I am trying to link two tables from the Invoicing Module: Q/I History Detail Master and Q/I Items.

I am trying to link the 2 tables by the field with the item numbers. The data in the field appears to be the same, but the link names are different. The one link name is "QI Item" (in Q/I Items) and the other link name is "QI Item #" (in Q/I History Detail Master). So when I attempt the link, Gridview cannot find the other field in the other table. Can you help me?

Basically, I'm trying to create a list of historical transactions based on a certain item number....

If you wish to link 2 Views together using columns that contain the same information and just have different column titles, all you have to do is Rename one of the titles to match the other. Right-click on a column title and choose Rename.

This can be done to slightly adjust a column title (as in your scenario) or if the field titles are very different (such as when desiring to link a Reference field in one View to a Document number in a second View).

You can rename any column title for any purpose, either for linking or to simply shorten or re-define the title.

OK, I right-clicked the field names in both tables and renamed them both to say "ITEM CODE". Then I attempted to link them again. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful. I got a message saying "unable to find the field ITEM CODE in this file!"

The Q/I History Detail Master is a "composite file" made up of Q/I History Detail 6.8 and Q/I History Detail Comp. If you do not need the Optional fields or the UPC code it will be quicker to use the Q/I History Detail 6.8 in your view.

You will need to rename QI Item # in the Q/I History Detail Master to Item Code and then your "link" will work.

Do I need to change the link code names, or just the field names? I have already changed the field names (in gridview tables) to the same name: ITEM CODES, and it won't link.

I have taken the suggestion and now the table I am using is QI History Detail 6.8 instead of the Detail Master...thanks.

actually, I noticed that when I look at the properties of the columns, the original name still shows up, instead of the new name I gave it?

The "original name" in the QI Item file is "Item Code"

The "original name" in the QI History Detail 6.8 file is "QI Item #", change this to "Item Code" not "ITEM CODES"
