Hello Set Lan,

Win 95 is no longer supported by Microsoft. Given the current price of hardware, I would strongly recommend purchasing a new machine with Win XP Professional to be your server. Today, I would have my server be at least a 2 GHz Pentiem 4 with 512-1024MBytes of RAM. Network speed is more of an issue - modern software will not run acceptably on 10MBit networks - 100MBits is required. Having said that, I'm sure that there are users out there running with a Windows 95 server. If you really insist on old machines, at least make the OS Windows 98 Second Edition. We will no longer support users having problems with Adagio running on Windows 95.

Generally speaking, your server should have more horsepower than your workstations, but performance is a subjective issue. There are two things I've learnt in the last 25 years:

  • No matter how fast it is, it's never fast enough.
  • Once you've seen fast, slow is never acceptable.
