Is there a limitation on the number of characters in the background text box? I copied some text into the box and it displayed fine. Next time I opened order entry have the text was missing. I reduced the size of the font so the whole note would fit within the box (no scroll bars) but next time I opened OE half the text was missing again.

Thanks

Are we talking about the text for the Adagio Desktop that you enter under File | User preferences?

The thought was that you would use this text for a company or module name. Might I ask what you are trying to place there that isn't fitting? It's possible there's a 255 character limit.

I was going to put our shipping charges there. We have a flat rate that applies to 90% of our customers but we do get the odd job that requires a different rate (and it's not worth creating a part number for when there might only be six to eight deliveries). I had it as an alert but started getting complaints from other users who don't ever need to see it. Thought the desktop might be a good place to put it. I guess I'll just leave an excel file open.

Thanks

Hmm - hadn't thought of that use. I can think of times something like that might be useful. I'll ponder how we might make this possible.

Hi Mike:
More creative thinking on your part I see. smile How about capturing the screen image of your shipping table, saving it as a graphics file (i.e. BMP) and then displaying it on the Adagio desktop using "User Preferences"?

Hi Bruce,

I already tried that. Problem was saving text as an image at the right size. I tried a couple of times using a text box in paint and saving as a jpg, but I kept getting the size wrong. After fifteen minutes I decided it wasn’t worth the effort. I’ll just use an excel worksheet to refer to (can’t leave anything on my desk because it just gets consumed by the other paper piles).

Thanks for the suggestion.

Mike:

Bruce has the right idea. Here is the execution:

1. Use Word to lay out and format (columns) your price list. Depending upon how much text you will likely want to use Landscape to get more columns and you will need to experiment with font size (18 is very readable, 14 is not bad).

2. If you don't have a software tool to convert the DOC file to JPG then use SnagIt to capture an image of your document and save that image to JPG.

3. Now edit User Preferences and select the JPG file as you Appearance Image. Likely you will want to do this as the SYS user so that you have the select 'Set for All Users'.
