Good day,

Out of necessity one of my clients who purchased a couple workstations that came with Windows 8 has been having some very difficult issues with installation. Softrak has been great with their support but I thought I would reach out to the community to see if others are having any issues. Basically the problem is right at the beginning with installation: The environment is a peer to peer with Server 2008 as a file server - all users have a G: drive mapped. Installation is done from the wkstn folder and installed with the run as admin command.

There are no flags during installation and all completes including a shortcut on the desktop. if the shortcut is double clicked the whole installation process run again. if the shortcut is right clicked and run as admin it reports that the report tables could not be found and closes. Adagio support provided some reg entries to check for UNC pathnames and they all exist and are correct.

To make matters more interesting one of the two Win8 workstations had previously installed inventory and was working fine within that application - today they tried to install order entry and it all broke - including inventory which now wants to rerun setup.

sorry for being so long winded. Back to my original question have others any experience with Win8 and adagio?

Thank you
patrick

Patrick:

Assuming current versions of Adagio, in theory there should be no problems but at this time I'm recommending that my clients acquire new workstations with Windows 7 Professional until the equivalent Windows 8 has been out for at least 6 months.

Given the lack of response I'd say that no one reading this forum has implemented Adagio on Windows 8 yet.

I'm currently using Adagio (OE 8.1E, IC 8.1D, AR 9.0C, AL 9.0D & AP 8.1D) which is on Windows Server 2012 as the file server. I run (with administrative rights) the workstation install on my Windows 8 Pro and it went fine. I've been using it for two months now with no issue.

Since you're drives are mapped you cannot run the program as other user just like you mention. Because if you "run as" other user somehow the mapped drive can't be seen by the program.

Another thing, the user may need to be assigned an administrative rights on the local workstation. But after the installation and everything is running fine you can then re-assigned it as a power user.

Also the mapped drives in windows 8 disconnects automatically after certain minutes when idle. So I disabled the auto-disconnect which is really not good because I'm constantly connected to the file server.

To check the Auto Disconnect idle time limit:
Net Config Server

To disable the Auto Disconnect:
Net Config Server /AutoDisconnect:-1

Let me know if it works out.

Thanks very much for the responses. It appeared to be a Server issue that technical support rectified.

I agree with you Douglas about sticking with 7 unfortunately this was purchased off the shelf and came with 8.
