We were told to retrieve batches to GL before we perform the final step of period end. Can we retrieve the batches to GL after we perform the period end step or MUST be retrieved before we do the period end?

You don't have to retrieve before running period end in AP or AR.

However, it is a good idea to retrieve regularly, meaning weekly and even daily. There's no downside and keeps you GL up-to-date.
