Hi, We have printed Picking Lists for orders for the week. Now we have changed the Picking Sequences in the items for many of the items on these orders, as we have had to move them around in our warehouse.

When I reprint the Pick Lists, the Picking Sequences do not change to the new locations. Why is this and how do we fix it ? I have been told to go and Edit the order and to hit enter on every item . But our orders are over 100 detail lines and we have more than 50 orders in a day.

When an order is entered and an item added to an order, the picking sequence for the item at the desired location is written to the order. It is this value that prints on picking slip specifications, using the D17 spec code.

If you edit the item in inventory and change the picking sequence, this will not retroactively adjust all outstanding orders to the new value. New orders will use the new picking sequences, but existing orders will remain as they are. This is why it was suggested to you to edit the order and re-save all items.

Make sure that you have edited the picking sequence in the correct places on the inventory items. Because you can store different pick sequences by location, it is possible to update the master item but not change the pick sequence for particular locations. Edit the Item and go to the Location tab. You can see the defined Pick Sequence for each of your locations - where a value of 'Default' means to read the master item value, and something other than 'Default' means a specific value has been defined for the location.

We think this is still a problem and the issue relates to the default pickslip processing.

If we have an order with location 1 assigned to the order with a defined picking sequence assigned, the picking sequence prints properly.

If we have a backorder and decide to ship from another location (say 03) with the default picking sequence, the default picking sequence does not print.

You can test this and see this with sample data, just by doing an inquiry or a grid view on picking sequences by locations for an item with defaults. The picking sequence is blank in the tables and onscreen inquiry of quantities by location (checkout the picking sequence details).

What we would like is to be able to print picking slips with picking sequences for any location, that pick up the revised picking sequence when the location changes without have to re-enter the line on the order again, given that the revised location on the backordered item is already correct.

Hi Brian,

The Pick Sequence on OrderEntry order details is stored and revised when editing the Location on the detail.
If I edit the detail and change the location, the Default picking sequence is correctly written to the data file and thus in turn prints correctly on the Picking Slip.

In the specific scenario that I edit the Location code on the order Header, and choose Yes to propogating the change to all order details, then the picking sequence is not re-written to the order detail file, and thus doesn't print on the picking slip. This would be a problem particular to the location change on the header that would need to be fixed, but the spec printing itself does not have a problem.

Can you confirm the specific process you are using to 'ship from another location'? Are you changing the header?

Yes, we are changing the header and the location does propogate to the detail line items on backorder on file.

So we would think that if the location is now showing as the new location, that the picking sequence would show for the new location, given you normally could have a different picking sequence for another warehouse.

From your analysis, I can see that we are experiencing the same issue. We thought from detailing the field contents with Gridview that this was a result of an issue with the default picking sequence settings when you have many locations.

Can this be corrected? Soon?

Yes, we understand that the setting of the pick sequence is not as it should have been in this scenario. Software isn't always 100% correct.

Yes we can correct it. But I cannot promise a time frame.

We JUST released Adagio OrderEntry to dealer preview, and this has been the behaviour since we implemented the feature to propagate the location change through the line details. At least now we know what the problem is. Unfortunately, this means that we won't be able to get this fixed until the next Service Pack to OrderEntry.

The recently released OrderEntry Hot Fix now correctly updates the picking sequence for the location when it is changed on the header and propagated through the lines.
