I ran the DataCare program last night manually as suggested, and it was successfull it also stated that the email was sent to me but I never received the email.. Andrew what the next step? -

Do you have an external email address you can try sending to instead? (gmail, etc.)


On the "on success" and "on failure" tabs of the company profile, how are the results being included (bottom drop down box)? If it's "attach", try "append" instead. Sometimes junk mail filters don't like attachments, which could explain why the test emails are making it through, but not the live runs.

Ryan,
I changed the email address in DataCare and also append the text and still it does NOT send me the emails on either the success or failure or the web safe task..
Any thoughts now??

Hi Lester,

Since it's working for the people on the forum, your dealer is probably going to have to poke around your specific site and find out why. You said that the test e-mail was sent OK, but was it received properly? How about trying to send the e-mail through MAPI (Outlook) while you watch by running th job manually and making sure that the e-mail is both sent and received.

This will end up being a trial and error process as you try and eliminate all the differences between a site that is working an your own.

Technology is like that sometimes.

Also, be sure the email testing is from the server that is set up to run Datacare overnight. Testing the email from a workstation would not tell you anything meaningful.

I'm getting in on this thread a little late and wanted to "clarify" a few statements:

1) The DataCare backups to vitalEsafe are working properly. It is the email sending function that requires attention.

2) When I was asked about the email "issue" I advised the client that it was an email configuration issue and that he should work with his reseller to determine why it is not working. All the issues of SMTP vs. MAPI email, email port setup, foreground vs. background execution, etc. required professional assistance to resolve. I have tried to follow-up to see if the reseller was ever contacted to help resolve this issue but haven't received an email reply to my follow-up inquiries. Based on the posts to this forum, I can only assume that this has not been done.

3) With ISPs blocking port 25, requiring authentication to send email, etc. setting up an application to send email (especially on a server where the is most likely no email client configured) has become a non-trivial exercise that is best accomplished with the professional services of a reseller.

vitalEsafe normally attempts to defer such consulting to the customer's local reseller because they are the best equipped to have local knowledge about these issues and should be able to address this problem in a more timely fashion. vitalEsafe is ready to assist the end-user and reseller if there is an issue with our backup services that require us to be involved.

Hi Larry:
Even though I have not been contributing to Lester’s forum topic, I have been monitoring the responses with Lester from the start and over the last many, many weeks we have tried pretty well everything!

Larry - you are correct.
The good news is that the applications are all working. The DataCare is doing what it is supposed to be doing - backing up the data and performing verifications on the data.
As well, the data is being backed up to VitalESafe properly.

The only issue that we have is that Lester does not receive an email after everything is completed, to indicate that the session was successful (or failed).

We have tried many different settings on Lester's system, but so far, no luck. We probably have to get his IT person involved in this. (Which is a bit excessive, as the most important components are all working just fine. The only thing that we are missing is that final email.)

One more thing that I forgot to mention:

When we uncheck the option to include websafe, the application works properly and we do receive the email.

It is only when we include the websafe option, that is when we no longer receive the confirmation email.

(This is why this is so difficult for us to determine what is going on. The settings seem to be set correct. It appears that there is something preventing the emails only when we add the WebESafe option.)
