Hello,

I am trying to get a connection working to my accpac plus data using the new ODBC connector from Adagio however I am having a problem. I get a "Simba" error which states that the driver is not capable.

The DSN works fine as I've tested it in Crystal.

When I configure the connection I specify that the data provider is the .NET Framework provider for ODBC.

Under "User or System Data Source Name" I choose the appropriate DSN.

I plug in the credentials, perform a connection test. So far, so wonderful.

When I click OK on the wizard I have to re-enter credentials twice for some reason.

At the end of the wizard I get this error:

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

David

We have not tested with .NET

I have asked R&D to have a look.

R & D came back with:

What is the client program that is calling this setup?
vb.net?
can I get an example of how/where it is being called? thanks,

Hi Michael,

This is Visual Studio 2005. To call these particular windows I drag a datagrid on the VB form and it asks for a data source. Since no datasource is present, I click on the option to configure one.

Thanks for your help.

In Visual Studio 2005, select:

Tools, Connect to Database.

That should bring up the "Add Connection" wizard as you have.

Select a working DSN as you have. Press OK, and the "Server Explorer" window in VS2005 should appear with your connection.

However, I've been able to confirm that when you try and do the same from vb.net the connection is failing. I'll advise further if I'm able to solve the problem for vb.net

thanks, Greg

further: I've been able to resolve the issue. VB.Net requires the driver to announce that it supports stored procedures. I've been able to patch around the problem and will forward an update to QA.

Hi David,

I've sent you an updated DLL that should fix the problem you encountered. I'd appreciate knowing if you got further along in your testing.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I replaced the DLL with the one that you sent me and it got past the error. Unfortunately, it erred out later when I tried to preview the data or run the app.

First this error pops up:

Then I am prompted for Adagio username and password.

Then this screen comes up:

Then another login screen.

Initially I thought it was because I had Crystal Reports running at the same time. I tried again after closing CR. I will try again Monday after a reboot.

Hello David,

You can only have a single instance of Adagio ODBC running at once. Certainly, if you were using it to connect to Crystal, you would not be able to open it again in VB. It's also possible that VB might open more than one instance.

I have an app created by just dropping a data grid control on a form in VB that works fine (at least for us).

Let us know the results of your further testing.

Hi Andrew,

Yep yep yep.. I rebooted and as if by magic, the data grid worked! Thank you very much for helping me out.

I will continue my testing and let you know if I find any bugs.
