It depends on the level of person. Are you talking about clerical (mostly data entry such as payables or invoicing), bookkeeping (GL duties including bank rec), or controller (probably a CPA)?

It would be best if the candidate is familiar with any accounting software package that is modular (sold in modules) and batch-oriented (where data entering is separate from posting). Those are higher level packages because they expect that there is a separation of duties and thus more than one person in the accounting department.

However, it truly doesn't matter what software package the candidate is familiar with if: 1) they have a positive attitude about learning, and 2) their accounting skills are adequate (except for the clerical position where it's less important). Anyone with those two attributes will love Adagio; it's intuitive (to an accountant), has a good combination of power and ease of use, and learning it is not a step backwards in anyone's career path. I have done a lot of training of new staff at my clients and these are the only two important indicators for success.
