Edit GL Description 2

Edit GL Description 2 - 04/06/21 08:37 AM

I searched before I posted this, I really did!

Is there a way to edit Description 2 in the GL?
I am frequently looking into an entry to clarify what it's all about, but then there's no way to append the record with the new information. I'd love to be able to just pop my findings into Description 2 so that in a year when I'm looking at the same transaction wondering what it's about I'd have a reminder instead of having to start from scratch...
Obviously not looking to change numbers or dates or anything that would damage the guts of the system, just pop a note somewhere into a GL entry.
Is there anything like that? Andrew, is there 'a module for that'?
Thanks!

Hi Hugh,

There currently isn't an option in Adagio Ledger to edit the description or reference of posted transactions, as there is in Adagio Receivables. I would have to write up a feature request for R&D to consider.

The Adagio Toolkit from Dakota Software already has a feature for editing posted transactions, if you need this feature sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the input!
I've requested a demo copy of the Dakota toolkit to see if it justifies the price.
I guess at this point they've done all the R&D and if you created a toolkit module you'd just be chasing the same dollars and the payback would be somewhat slower... Still, given the option I'd prefer to buy from Adagio.

Hi Hugh

Dakota Software is as close to Softrak as it gets. The programmer Bob Wisener does all of the mods for JobCost, SalesCQ and other core modules.

Also you can purchase Toolkit piecemeal to lower the cost if all you need is one or two functions. And there is no penalty for buying extra functions later on.

I'd highly recommend the Toolkit from Adagio. It does lots of useful things to keep your data neat and tidy.

If you just want to annotate the odd GL transactions, the you could document your findings in a text note, print it to PDF, and attach the PDF to the posted transaction. (If you need a one-off solution sooner rather than later.)

Toolkit from Adagio is exactly what I want Andrew! crazy

I just tried installing the test version of Toolkit FOR Adagio and not only could I not get it to work it jumbled up my ADSPROF file and I was locked out of the system until I rewrote the path inside the file. It's been a terrifying morning. I think I'll wait a few days to catch my breath before I try installing Toolkit again...

Hi Hugh,

I was going to go back and edit the typo in my post, but then that would have made your post look odd - so I'll just say that I'm surprised you had a problem and I hope it was easily resolved with Bob at Dakota.

I think the module is an indispensable tool for Adagio sites wanting to keep their data nice and tidy. Like all things, accounting data moves to a state of maximal randomness over the passage of time.

Hugh:

This is where the Adagio Consultants experience comes in handy.

By default, Toolkit installs to c:\softrak\toolkit which is likely not where your Adagio is installed to.

Then when you created a Toolkit database you did it with your live database, which I never recommend when using trial/demo versions of software. Your ADSPROF was changed to the install location of Toolkit.

well of course you're right, but I'm a cheap b@$tard crazy And it's tough to make myself pay consultant fees when I'm just trying to see how it works to make a buy or no buy evaluation.

Also the guy from Dakota was super helpful and got me back up and running so that part was great.
