Inventory Item Import Error

Inventory Item Import Error - 05/18/10 08:06 PM

Getting an error in Inventory v8.1B 100310 when importing items from an Excel 97-2003 formatted spreadsheet. Have about 6,000 items to import; if I reduce the file to about 10 items as a test, it works. Tried 1000 items in the list, get the error. Tried 500, get the error.
Here's the error: Access violation at address 10008C2D in module "Opnx32.dll". Read of address 537DF442.
Any ideas?

Have you tried saving the spreadsheet as a CSV file and importing from there?

Good idea. I'll try it later and let you know.
Thanks,

CSV format would work except the item numbers had quotation marks for inches which conflicted with the CSV format, so I saved the file in Excel 95 format which worked. That's the format of Excel Adagio wants I guess.

Nope. There's something else going on. I think that V8.1b uses Excel itself to do the import. Certainly V8.1C (coming soon) uses Excel.

Got excited when the Excel 95 format of the import file containing 8,000 items seemed to work, but afterward discovered that some (seemingly randomly) of the items were duplicated with truncated item codes and truncated descriptions. An example of this would be an item code 250-134-09 that was properly imported also showed up in the database as a separate item 250-134-0, the latter of which is a total non existent item. Too many items ended up this way - restored the Inventory backup and am back to the drawing board.

Interesting that Adagio is using Excel itself to do the import. BTW, the site is using Windows 7 and MS Office Excel 2007. (but I've tried this in WinXP - same result).

A real head scratcher...

Might end up enabling some of the older older export/import formats in Adagio and export the xls sheet to one of them to try, such as Lotus123 or Quattro.

Ed:

Make certain that the Excel column containing the Item code is expanded so that all of the item codes display their full length.

On occasion I have seen where only the visible portion of the code imports if the column is too narrow.

Yes. Follow Bruce's advice. Also. You might consider changing all the " to in. and using CSV as the import.
