Multi-page printing on colored paper

Multi-page printing on colored paper - 03/22/23 08:27 AM

A client prints their 3-part pick slips on paper that is color collated - white/pink/yellow.

This works fine if the pick slip is only one page, but if there are multiple pages, they would like all of the page 1's to print first, then the page 2's, etc. And that is not what Adagio wants to do. As a result, the parts don't match up with the colors of the paper.

I told them that PrintBoss can do this, but you know what their response was.

Is there a way to do what they want without added software?

Hello Steve,

You can’t set this in Adagio but you may be able to workaround it on the printer driver:

Try setting the number of copies in the printer setup instead of in the specification as a work around. Set the number of copies to 1 in the Adagio specification. This should give the desired result.

For example: if you have 2 copies:

With copies set to 2 in Adagio spec you get
Copy 1, page 1
Copy 1, page 2
Copy 2, page 1
Copy 2, page 2

With copies set to 2 in the printer setup you get
Copy 1, page 1
Copy 2, page 1
Copy 1, page 2
Copy 2, page 2

You can set the number of copies permanently to 2 in the printer driver. Setup a copy of the printer driver so other applications don't always print 2 copies. Then set this driver as the specific printer under the File | Options, Specification tab in OE.

Hi Softrak

If you think about it, knowing that not all pick slips will have the same number of pages, and that the parts will have different fields printing, you will realize why your suggestion will not work.

Hi Steve,

Re read it. The example is for 2 copies of a 2 page form.

Steve:

I agree with support, I believe their suggested solution will work regardless of the number of pages in the pick slip.

Hello Steve & Doug,

Steve's client must have the exception. If the "# of Copies" in Specification options can't be set to 1 because each copy also prints different information, setting the printer driver won't help.

We had the same issue many years ago and the client had 4 colours of pickslips and delivery docs. We argued that it was not practical and eventually the printer hardware guy came to support us and said that it was simply unreliable to expect the printer clutch device that feeds the paper from the tray to always pull only only 1 copy with precision to maintain the colour order.

We had them purchase 3 more paper trays, with PrintBoss, and we'll never go through that argument again. The amount of time wasted attempting to mess with issues relating to potential discount paper suppliers, storage of forms in rooms with humidity issues at various times in the year, makes us now smarter as consultants.

We used PrintBoss, as I expect Steve has done, to selectively print 2 copies or 3 copies or 4 copies dependent upon the ship via code. It saved paper, it sent the printed forms to the proper location, and even stapled the related forms together. We eventually installed a similar solution with confidence that the solution would work at another client that shipped 3000 orders per day. That's why we are consultants.
