XConsole Shut Down was cancelled

XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 07/20/17 05:39 PM

A user left OE and IC open and XConsole was suppose to shut them down, but it didn't work. Instead there was an error on the user's computer that said, "XConsole Shut Down was cancelled". How and why did this happen? How do I get XConsole to shut down Adagio programs that are left open in the future?

Hello Susan,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

There isn't enough information to answer the question. What are the versions being used?

If there was an unacknowledged message on the screen, Console may not have been able to shutdown.

We have also had this reported in an older Console when data was being accessed by a program being run from a local drive instead of the network drive.

Hi Softrak Support,

In your response above you said, "If there was an unacknowledged message on the screen, Console may not have been able to shutdown." The whole idea of xconsole I thought was to shut down Adagio programs that were inadvertently left open so that DataCare can have exclusive access to the dataset. Are you saying that unless someone acknowledges the warning message that I have set to 5 minutes before shut down, that it won't shut the program down?

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 10/20/17 10:17 AM

Hi Susan,

Support is mistaken. An unacknowledged message will be closed by xConsole and the application terminated.

For xConsole to work correctly, it is important that NO ONE accesses the network data from an Adagio module running on a local drive. Please make sure that all your shortcuts point to the same Softrak Folder on your network to launch Adagio.

Could you list the versions you are running please? Using \Softrak\System\CHKSYS.EXE | List Versions is probably the fastest way of building the list.

Also, was the shutdown a scheduled or one-time shutdown request (I'm assuming it is a scheduled request).

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 10/20/17 10:44 AM

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your reply. I can confirm that NO ONE accesses the network data from and Adagio module running on a local drive. All of our users are running Adagio on the server via RDP.

XConsole is scheduled every Monday - Friday evening (screen shot attached). However, when a user leaves Adagio open, XConsole fails with a message "XConsole Shut Down was cancelled". As a result, DataCare aborts.

Here are our versions at the moment:

All the following are based on the Adagio List Version [170904].

The following Adagio programs are NOT Current:
Ledger 9.2B (170320) [must be version: 9.3A (170625)]
Payables 9.2B (170130) [must be version: 9.3A (170623)]
PurchaseOrders 9.2B (170425) [must be version: 9.3A (170821)]
Receivables 9.2A (161013) [must be version: 9.2A (170711)]

The following Adagio programs are Current:

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 10/20/17 11:50 AM

Hi Susan,

Your quoted message does not appear in any of the code. The closest we can find is:
Quote:

"The Scheduled Shutdown has been Cancelled!"

Is this the message you are seeing?

5:25pm is shortly after the end of your day. Do you go into xConsole and adjust the shut down time if you are still working at that time?

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 10/20/17 11:57 AM

Hmm I took a screenshot last night but it's on my computer at home. I'll post it here tonight.

I intentionally left IC open a couple of nights ago to see what it would do and it worked fine. So it's not a problem consistently. When it is a problem, I see that pop up about the shutdown being cancelled.

Hi Doug,

Is this a scheduled shutdown or an "on demand" one.

See attached screenshot.

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 10/20/17 06:29 PM

Is there any possibility that you went into xConsole and changed the scheduled shut downs when this occurred?

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 10/20/17 06:39 PM

No, we never change the xConsole schedule.

OK. Thanks.

Hi Andrew, It is a scheduled shutdown.

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 10/23/17 11:12 AM

I've reviewed the xconsole schedule at TDL and the only unusual thing I noticed was that the path involves a hidden drive:
\\xxx-xx\D$\softrak\system

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 11/01/17 12:10 PM

This is still not working. It sort of the defeats the purpose of having X-Console.

I am very intrigued by the resolution to this issue as I have a similar issue on Xconsole and its also intermittent.

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 11/06/17 04:30 PM

As a dealer of Adagio I have sold Console to a few of our clients. Where we find X-Console to fail includes;

1. LAN when the workstation Network card goes to sleep X-Console can not communicate with the workstation and doesn't kick that user out. This is solvable by making sure that the network cards don't go to sleep.

2. Terminal Server - the best we can figure is that X-Console cannot see the TS users to kick them out. Not sure why Softrak didn't notice this in testing.

3. Hidden drives/network shares - this is not a common configuration for the majority of Adagio users. I suspect that X-Console just doesn't know how to communicate with this configuration.

Hopefully Softrak will do some more R&D on this solution.

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 11/22/17 02:51 PM

We are using terminal server so I guess that is the problem. XConsole just doesn't work at all. I wondered as well if it had anything to do with that Print Boss is running on the machines that won't shut down?

Re: XConsole Shut Down was cancelled - 12/04/17 07:11 AM

Softrak, are you acknowledging that XConsole does not work on a Terminal Server?
