We have a situation in that there are more than 40 Dept’s in the Ledger data, with a number of Managers.
The Managers need to report on just the Dept’s that they manage, which might be anywhere from 1-6 different Depts.

We have various Statements that we want to run by Department, or by a Department Group (consolidating a few Dept’s into one Group).

Currently, we are saving the Statements in files that are available to all the Mgrs.

Question: Is it possible to limit the Statement by Manager, such that each user will only be able to run the Statement by those Dept’s that they manage?
We would like to filter out all the other Dept’s that each Mgr is not responsible for.

Hi Sam,

When logged in as the system user, you can limit which departments others users can access in the financial reporter. So which they can access the same statement, they can only see the department(s) or department group(s) that you have enabled for them. If you are going to have different statements for different mangers, that is fine too. If a department manager opens up another statement it will either be blank or only be populated with their department details, depending on how you have setup the statements to work.

I don't know of a way of blocking the users from accessing the different statement files, besides saving them in different folders and getting windows permissions involved, which seems like overkill. So while you can limit their access once they open the statements to only see their details, you can't limit the statement files themselves.

Yes, look into Departmental Restrictions in Financial Reporter.

Samuel, the easiest solution is to copy your financial statement and setup one financial for each Manager with their specific departments. For each statement setup one column for each department under the privy of the manager and optionally add a column to total all their departments. At the top of each column enter the department number and name of each department. Then reference the department in the financial statement GL formula so they are only showing the results for that particular department. There is a specific GL formula that does this. For each financial you an also select the specific departments available through a filter. For each Manager place the statements they can access in a data subfolder and only assign them rights access through Windows.

Eric, I found that the Departmental Restrictions in the Financial Reporter is the best solution.
This is only available to the user SYS, who is able to set which user can view which Depts.
This way, we only need one financial statement.

In your scenario, I would need 40+ separate reports for our 40+ different Depts.
And of course what will happen after we create all the reports for each Dept, the client will ask for "just one tiny modification to the report" - oh-oh!
