I removed the unmatched OEF001'I.xxx file and it solved the problem.

Thanks

Steve

We just upgraded a site to OE 9.2A 20170710, multiple users reported seeing this issue:
"Critical error 1011 insufficient rights to create file in data directory"

They got it immediately after trying to use F6 on an item detail line(before even entering any search details), multiple users reported this issue at the same time but we were unable to re-create the issue minutes later. We were unable to find any unmatched OE finder files, nor multi-part files that were unmatched.

None of the users have permission issues inside the data directory. We suspect there is some process that is causing the lock, or perhaps 2 users tried to open the SF at the same time? I'll report more details as I get them but this is not a user permissions issue.

Hi Warren,

The 'error 1011' typically is given when an index file cannot be created. File rights and mismatched index/random pairs are two known reasons.

When in an item detail line, what field was attempted to use the F6 smartfinder when the error occurred? Any field with F6 capability or just one or certain ones? Knowing that could be useful, as the problem might actually be mismatched index/random file pairs on the underlying data file rather than just the SmartFinder files.

You could also try the same process on sample data, just to see if the scenario is localized to the clients data, or whether the issue is not data related. Perhaps something failed in the conversion of the data.

I believe the correct data dictionaries for OE92A should be dated April 26, 2016. I would expect different errors if the dictionaries are incorrect, but something to check.

What version of ADS32.DLL is installed? There are no known problems with this, but I did find an issue about 10 years ago where something in ADS caused this error in a particular function for a particular data set.

Thanks for the quick reply. Both users would have been using the finder on the item # field. We cannot recreate the error after a small amount of elapsed time (minutes) in their data or in sample data. We were not shown any unusual data conversion messages.

The dictionary dates are good, ADS is 1.12.67.3611, dated august 4th, 2017.
