Hello,

I have been researching the following issue:
User enters a new batch. Once they verify the entries they click post and receive the error
"Can not open GLPST.CMW" We exit the porgram and restart and receive the message: Only data integrity check can be used. We run it and receive the following message:

These are all the posting account of the batch the does not post correctly. We try rebuild and receive the message to contact softrak for data repair. We restore the data and the problem posting posts correctly yesterday.

Last month the same issue happened but when we tried to post the problem batch the same thing happened and it was not until the 3rd time that the batch posted correctly.

We have Adagio AP installed on this user's PC Also we have GL installed on this PC and several others (they are users with view permission only).

No changes have been made to the workstation since nov 2004 when we migrated to xp. Ran the check system tool on each pc and all report no errors
opertunistic locking is off on all PC's We have Novell client 4.91 and file caching is off. No changes have been made to the server.

The GLPST file is just over 25 megs in size. Our CFO is concerned because the year end is approching. Any help would be welcome. Thank you.

Jeffrey Marshall.

Hi Jeff,

Did you say that Adagio Ledger is installed locally on a number of PCs, rather than installed on a shared server? This very much may be the cause of your problem, because proper file locking is not guaranteed under this method of installation. Also, this configuration goes against the license agreement.

The proper installation is to have Adagio programs installed on the network, not on the local PC (unless there is only a single person who will ever use Adagio). All PCs that will use Adagio must perform a workstation setup while logged into Windows as their own user ID (and install privileges at least temporarily granted).

The error message you reported indicated that while trying to post a batch, they did not have full access to the Posted Transactions data file. When Adagio is installed correctly, it takes care of making sure that a process can correctly proceed before doing it.

The AP and GL programs are installed on the network. The cliets are the one refered to in my first post.

As to file access the user has rights to the accpac directories that contain the data. The server is novell and we have been running it for around 3 years. In that time we've had one posting error that required us to restore the gl*.* files.

What could cause the file to be locked when the user does a post. Yesterday the user did 4 or 5 batch postings in the morning. The first time in the afternoon the batch postfailed. then worked correctly.

Should these files be set to sharable? in properties when looking at them from windows explorer show them only marked as archived.

Jeff:

Under Novell, all the Adagio data files should be flagged shareable read-write.

You should set the flags after restoring data since, depending on the backup device and program, the Novell attributes may not be restored.

Hi JeffMarshall,

Sounds like it might be an intermittently faling network card to me. Posting in the GL moves a lot of data up and down the wire. Also, make sure that opportunistic locking and file caching are turned off on the workstation.

Make sure that the latest Novell client 4.91 service pack is installed. I have seen similar problems when it isn't.

FYI - I just fought a problem with Novell Client 4.91 SP2 for 2 weeks and finally figured it out today. There is some incompatibility with WSM 7.0/GL 6.5 and Novell Client 4.91 SP2 that causes all posting of batches to fail in a particular way. The balances are updated correctly but all the posted transactions disappear. We were FINALLY able to track it down to Novell Client 4.91 SP2. We installed older Novell Client 4.83 SP1 and it worked properly. Probably won't affect Adagio but for clients in transition, this is a problem.
