This may be common knowledge to everyone except me but I encountered the following issue this week for the first time.
A client wanted to email from Adagio using “Direct” (SMTP) and directing the messages to the Gmail mail server. We configured everything correctly but the “Test” button returned a failure message.
Within moments the client received an email from Google notifying them that someone had tried to access their Google account using a “less secure” application. It seems that Google instituted new sign-in security to its services back in 2014 or 2015.
The good news is that the email contains a reference to the fact that you can change the security setting in Google which would allow Adagio to send emails. The setting is in a section named “Allow less secure apps”. They really make people feel guilty for enabling this option!
