I'm trying to import a budget in a csv format and I get an 'Invalid data error 30010/ for field 'Account Code' of record 1. The slash does not show in the document. I tried manually typing in the number to test it and it still gives that error.
Ledger 90D (111017)

Does Account = 30010 with Department = blank exist? The Budget Import template has the Account and Department codes as character strings. In your CSV file are they delimited by quotes so they will be recognized as strings?

No they are not delimited by quotes. Is this import supposed to work differently than any other import?

Whenever I have a doubt about the format of the imported file, I export from Adagio to a file and then try to make the import file match. In this case, the exported file has quotes around the Account and Department codes. You didn't say in your posting, but does the import fail on the first row? Put quotes around the Account and Department on that row and then test. It that row is successful but the next row fails, you have your answer.

If your Import Definition is using ASCII CSV (Delimited) then you need Quotes. If it uses ASCII Fixed Length then no Quotes are used.

Define an Export Template of what you want, have a look at the file using a Text Editor, and then define the exact same thing for the Import Template.

We have tried both of these options and we are still getting this errror:

When we do ASCII Fixed length: Invalid data '010 ' for field called 'Account Code' of record 1.

We did put quotes on the .csv import file and it didn't work either.

Imports are fiddly. Since Import templates define the sequence and format of the data coming into Adagio, and the data file itself can be generated from another source, you need to carefully match the two.

Try and create a single record that imports properly. Or, check out the import examples in the general ledger sample data. If you say "CSV" and are importing an account and department code - these are text fields and need quotes around the values. If the data is coming from Excel, then import directly from the Excel spreadsheet, rather than saving the table as a CSV. Make sure that the account-department column is formatted as text.

My import file is .xls. I have tried to copy the format from the sample file but it doesn't make any difference.
Somewhere Excel or Adagio put a "/" after the account number.

Error: Invalid data '30010/' for field called 'Acct/Dept' of record 2.

Why does it show 'Acct/Dept' field even though I have the department and the account in separate columns, and on the template I have 2 separate fields too. According to the error message it looks as if the the "/" divides the account and the department.

Please send me a backup of your Ledger data and the Excel file you are trying to import.

To close this thread - the import template did not match the layout of the XLS being imported.
