I would like to import the ISBN in. Since the ISBN has 10 digit (i.e. 9781420612349), it shows 9.78E+12 when I save the file into .csv format and is imported like this. I tried to save in excel file format, but it does not allow me to import. Is there anyway I can import it correctly.

Hi Mavis,

How is the file being created in the first place? An export from Adagio Inventory items, or a different way? If using Inventory, ensure that the data type for the field on the Export template is set to String instead of Number.

If you edit a CSV file with Excel, information that is strictly numeric may get converted to a scientific notation as you see - this is an Excel issue. Perhaps try using 'Auto-fit column widths' to display the entire 10 characters, as Excel will display numbers that don't fit in cells as scientific notation.

Try editing the CSV file in Notepad instead of Excel. This will not convert these 10-digit values.

In Excel, make sure that the column with the ISBN number is formatted as Text, and to make sure, preceed the ISBN number with a "'" (single quote). This is a very common Excel problem. You see it also when Excel tries to deal with phone numbers or GL Account Numbers (or inventory item numbers when they are all numeric).

Edit in Notepad works really well.
