Hi,

Setup a client with a US Robotics external USB modem. Have OE running in Fax Server mode on Server2008. The first dozen or so faxes will send without any issue. But then OE seems to lock up on the "Initializing modem" stage.

If I cancel this particular fax, OE will attempt to send the next one, but encounters the same problem. So I click to cancel the fax server altogether. But now the fax queue screen seems to be stuck in a loop. A box flashes repeatedly on the screen.

I've left it run like this for a couple minutes, but it won't resolve itself. I have to close down the fax queue, which produces this error message:

This message pops up 3 times before I'm able to actually close the queue listing.

If I attempt to query the modem now (from windows' printers and devices form), I receive an error:

As soon as I close OE fully, I can once again query the modem properly. So it seems like OE is locking the resource?

Any ideas?

Ryan:

Wrong modem. Get a real fax modem such as a Multi-tech or Brooktrout (though a little pricey you can't beat the reliability).

Hi Ryan,
My only suggestion is to try a reset/pause in the modem initialization under Fax Options.
I think it would be: ATZ,
Been too long, you might have to lookup the codes in the modem book.

Doug,

Do you have sites using a multi-tech modem for an Adagio Faxserver? And it's able to handle sending faxes back-to-back-to-back without getting tripped up?

Chris,

Your memory is great; the "ATZ," command is a reset followed by a pause (2 seconds by default for this modem). I've added that to the fax setup and we'll see if it makes an improvement. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks

Ryan:

Faxing died out many years ago. Everyone has switched to Email.

We continue to use a multi-tech modem in-house for our faxing purpose but it no longer gets a work out. 10 years ago this modem was used to regularly send our 1500 piece fax broadcasts. We replaced the USR which kept crashing.

Thanks very much for the recommendation, Doug.

I've had a MultiTech ZBA USB modem running at this site for 2 full days now without a single hiccup. The USR this replaces was crashing hourly.
