Reduce the resolution of your screen to get bigger text. It'll be really big if you drop the resolution to 800x600, but we'd recommend 1024x768 or something close (perhaps 1200x800).

How much memory is in the workstations? How fast is your network? What is the difference in speed between looking up a customer in a local copy of your ata versus over the network wire? (It shouldn't be more than 2-3 times faster on a local copy.)

Stop using those Windows 98 machines! Install the new machines and get Adagio running reliably before upgrading. How come the new machines are running XP when Windows 7 ships in 2 weeks?

AR 9.0 allows instantaneous lookup by customer name (and phone number and document number). We don't recommend attempting the upgrade from 8.1 to 9.0 on your own. There are a lot of changes, and your specifications for statements are likely going to need adjustment.

There is more then 75% memory available in each workstation. The network connection is good and my other programs on the network are running fine. I am also getting frozen alot in the adagio program but the other programs work fine. I have the new computers hooked up but i dont want to upgrade until i figure this problem out. What do you mean by looking up a customer in a local copy or over the network?
What is the problems with the upgrade that I cant do it myself?

Hi Kevin,

What "other programs" are running fine? Excel and Word hardly use your network at all. Your accounting exercises the network more than anything (even streaming video is only one directional). The network connection can be "good" but can still be slow. You need at least a 100MBit network for Adagio, and in large sites we'd recommend a 1GBit solution. If you're still running Windows 98, you might still have some 10MBit hubs affecting your network performance.

Copy your data to a local drive (drive C) and "point" Receivables at the copy. See how fast a customer look up takes on the local copy. If this is beyond your technical skill, then an Adagio consultant will be happy to help you by logging on to your machine, although I'm sure that charges will apply.

There are significant changes in Accounts Receivable V9.0A that are documented in the release note. Have you carefully reviewed the document and tested out the items that might apply to you? Are you comfortable modifying the layout of your statements and other forms to take advantage of the new formatted address?

Adagio runs fine when properly configured and installed. The underlying database can process more than 10,000 records a second on a modern machine. How many customers are in your database? Have you excluded your accounting data from your anti-virus scannng?

Hi Kevin,

Sorry this reply is not more specific but ...

There are many questions from a networking perspective that are still unanswered (and in some cases unasked) here. However, based on the fact that you are saying that everything worked well up until 2-3 weeks ago, one of the most important would be - What changed ?

In thinking about the changes, you have to consider Hardware (Servers, Clients and Hubs/Switches even cabling) and Software and with Software you have to consider all Software - Adagio, O/S, and other Apps (especially Anti-Virus and/or Spyware Background/On-Access/Real-Time scanners).

Troubleshooting network related problems can be exceptionally difficult to track down. When you say that other programs are working fine, bear in mind that Adagio is much more taxing on a network than say Word or Excel. In fact, in many instances, no other application is more taxing on the network than the accounting app.

Personally, I think that you need to get some direct assistance on this one. Where a much closer look can be taken at your Network. Is it Peer-to-Peer or Client Server ? Is your server as old as the Windows 98 PCs ? Are you running at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps ? You still haven't given us an idea of your database size ? Number of Customers etc. ?

You should definitely move to the new Win XP PCs and get everything working well in the new environment BEFORE attempting any Adagio Upgrades. I believe there's a better than 70% chance that this alone will provide major speed improvements.

Not doing the Upgrade yourself is not really a matter whether they are problems with the upgrade, it's to do with the fact that being a major upgrade there are many new features and an AC can help you configure the product to get the best results from the Upgrade. However, if going it on your own, please ensure that all of your modules are at the right versions for compatibility.

Good Luck !!!

Pete

OK, In case you're wondering, Andrew and I were both writing at the same time and he got his in first - we're very different time zones.

But when I wrote my reply I was sitting in a hotel in Montreal (or perhaps it was in the airport in Halifax). Now I'm in Ottawa. Tomorrow evening I'll be back at home for the Thanksgiving (Canadian) holiday.

I'm not sure about the times recorded on our posts. They're a bit odd.

At least Peter & I agree!
