This is an I/C Profile item code question when using category codes.
Is there any way or reason why category codes for an item (profile) could change from the way they were originally entered in the I/C database?
eg. three part item code, with the first two characters as category code. XX/XXX-XXXXX

We're finding that the category code in the Profile for item many products and in some cases entire groups of products seems to have "spontaneously" reverted to the first category in the database. Thanks

Sorry, but item categories don't just change "spontaneously". Was someone recently making wholesale changes to the database using import/export?

Also, the item category is a separate field from the item number (although longtime ACCPAC Plus users often had the category of an item be the first segment). Is that the field you're referring to?

Yes, it's the item category code (separate field) that appears to have changed in some way (reverted to the first category in the list). And yes, the same category code is also used as the first segment of the item number. I understand that the two are not related.

I'm trying to think of different ways that the changes to the category code may have taken place. Other than import/export are there any other ways this can happen?

Nope, not unless you've uncovered some pretty obscure bug (although you'd think that other Inventory users would have noticed this too).
