If you Preview a check rather than print it to paper, do you see the same issue with missing colour? Or perhaps preview with a different printer driver such as AdagioV2PDF. I'm trying to isolate whether the printer driver or the print job is related to this scenario.

Also, in an attempt to compare apples to apples, could you also edit your check spec from Maintenance / Maintain Specifications, and preview from there? Just to see if your background colour appears within the designer program.
