Sample data doesn't contain all the historical transactions, so in some (many?) cases, the item valuation won't work if you backdate it far enough.

That being said, the example you gave for BKM.ROY-003 does have the receipt dated 6/15/2001 and I would have expected the Total Cost for valuation as of 4/30/01 to be 2083.88, not 8.55. Based on this (and other examples), we'll take it from here.
