What cost does the re-cost button use: recent, average, or standard? Also, any chance of adding a re-price button to update prices?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

It uses the Cost specified in Edit | Company Profile | Quotes | Cost to use at the bottom of the dialog.

There is an Update item information and pricing on the Copy quote dialog, but my guess is that you want to be able to update all the Quotes in a single operation? If this was done, would you want the quote number to be incremented if the pricing was changed? How would you specify that a Quote was not to have its pricing changed under any circumstances?

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the info - didn't even see that.

We keep two sets of quotes within SalesCQ. Our residential housing quotes use leading zeros i.e. 001234 while our commercial quotes use no leading zeros i.e. 1234. Commercial quotes are normally good for thirty days unless we are notified in advance. Housing quotes can be anywhere from 3 months to a year. The Update item information and pricing on the Copy quote dialog is fine for us right now but I would prefer to have a choice; most of the time I want to change just the prices, not the item information. In a perfect system, being able to specify a quote range and a date range would be ideal. For example; quotes from 0001 to 1200 prior to quote date August 1, 2013. And the quotes numbers wouldn't have to increment, just the revision levels.

I've never run into a situation where a quote couldn't be changed. I suppose a "Lock Quote" check box on the quote would suffice.

Also, the 'Edit | Company Profile | Quotes | Cost to use' would be really handy in Inventory for making adjustments. Right now the extended price is based on average cost but there are times, especially after a cost increase, that I need to use recent or standard costs.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

Aren't you bound by the pricing on a quote until the quote expires?

In Inventory, when you are making an adjustment, you are always making an adjustment to the total cost or total quantity on hand for an item. Do you mean you want to be able to choose which cost is displayed when making an adjustment?

Hi Andrew,

We are and we aren't. Any quote we give our commercial customers is good for 45 days. But about a quarter of them don't get a go ahead from their customer until 3 or 4 months later. If there has been an increase in that time the quote has to be re-calculated.

For our housing customers, we use quotes rather than standing orders (much like Brian imports web orders into quotes before processing them). I have over nine hundred house quotes and find it keeps order entry uncluttered (it's also a carry over from our old accounting system). We try and keep the pricing on those for the length of the development but some developments go for three years.

As to inventory, yes I would like to be able to choose which cost is displayed when making an adjustment. If I'm decreasing inventory, say raw material, then I use the average cost. But if I'm adding inventory, say after a production run, them I need to use recent cost.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

OK. I understand about the Quotes.

I just checked the adjustment entry form. There's no reason we couldn't show all the costs on that dialog when an item is chosen.

Hi Andrew,

Show or select? Showing the costs helps, but it means a calculation in the cost field. The nice thing about quotes is that I can select the cost I want from the list and that's what's used. If I could do the same thing within the adjustment entry form, that would be great.

Just to let you know, I do most of my adjustments through an Excel import at the end of the month. Much easier when I have to make a couple of hundred adjustments. But there are entries that have to be made during the month that are easier to enter directly than through an import.

Thanks

I'm confused.

An adjustment is made to adjust the value of an inventory item. You adjust the quantity on hand or the value of what you have on hand.

What would the calculation be?

The shop just made 10,000 ft of 5" pipe. There is 1,000 ft in stock with an average cost of $0.40 per ft and a new (November 1) cost of $.036 ft. When I do an adjustment, I select Quantity and Cost, then Increase, and then I enter 10000 in quantity and the cost comes up $4,000.00, so I have to enter in $3,600.00.

Why not do a Receipt of 10,000 feet at $3,600?
