Here is an idea that my client asked me.

We would like to generate a "thank-you-for-your-order" automatic email on a daily basis.

This would be based, for example, on all the Invoices that were generated and posted today (i.e. send the email at the end of the day for all of today's Invoices).
We are using Order Entry (with A/R) for generating the Invoices.

Create an invoice specification that looks like a letter and send it? Create a SmartFinder or GridView search on the OE Header selecting all orders Invoiced "TODAY()" and all the address information, ExcelDirect it and do a mailmerge in Word?

This appears to be a few possible ideas.

1. An invoice spec that looks like a letter - would this mean that we would have to reprint the so-called Invoices, say at day-end (or the next day), using the letter-spec?

2. The second idea looks more intensive. We would have to export the data to Excel, and then go into Word, do the mailmerge and then send all the letters to email. (How would Word know which letter goes to which email?)

If this is what you are recommending, I like the first option. There is less fidgeting about for the end-user.

2. Yes, but your formatting options are greater. Also, Word can merge directly to e-mail (Word 2007).

I just pounded out two possible processes off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others. It depends what your client is trying to accomplish. Are the "thank you's" all to be e-mailed? Faxed? Mailed? Additional attachements?

At this point, we are considering emailing the "thank-you's".

Now that I think of it, I may not want the email to have any inserts such as a Word document or an "Invoice", just a short message that states in effect: Thank you for your business!

Can that be done from within Adagio?

Why not place the "thank you" on the e-mail cover?

What I would do is use PrintBoss. When you print out the invoice to PrintBoss it can pass the doument to a printer and then automatically send out an email.
